Breakthroughs in the Teacher's Professional Development in the Second Polish Republic and during the Polish People's Republic through the Prism of the Biography of Henryk Nalewajk (1906-1979)

Abstract

The article describes the life of Henryk Nalewajk (1906-1979), who was teacher in elementary schools in Mazovia, vocational schools in Kielce, the organizer of education in Warmia and Mazury. There were some groundbreaking events in his life that changed his way of thinking and behaviour, having also a significant impact on his professional development. The work presented stages of teacher's professional development in the context of various conditions, including political and educational ones in the Second Polish Republic and during the postwar time. Few areas have been selected to be described in detail: The choice of professional path, the stage of professional preparation, i.e. growing into a teacher's role, starting work and finally reaching the autonomy and professionalism as a teacher.
