Corrado Ricci – at the Sources of Research on Children's Art

Abstract

The pioneering paper concerns the work of Corrado Ricci, the author of the monograph entitled L'Arte dei bambini (Children's Art), published in 1887, which has never been fully translated into Polish. Corrado Ricci was a lawyer by education, an art historian and archaeologist by passion. He connected his scientific future with the latter two fields. Archaeological experiences led him to become interested in children's art – he was one of the first researchers of this art. Although in his research he focused mainly on the formal aspect of children's art works, the conclusions drawn by the researcher were ahead of the incubating contemporary pedagogical thought in the field of children's art.
