Visual Disability – Educational and Rehabilitational Dimension of Writing about Oneself

Considerations on Biographical Education in Typhlopedagogy

Abstract

The issue of literary writing about oneself by visually impaired people has little and scattered representation in the literature of the subject in the area of pedagogical and literary sciences. Hence, the aim of this study is to attempt to determine the significance of autobiographical literary activity of visually impaired people in the educational and rehabilitation process within typhlopedagogy, including special geragogy.

Based on the material obtained using the bibliographic method, subjected to the descriptive-critical analysis method (literary records and press statements of the authors in the form of biographical journalistic interviews), an attempt was made to indicate the possibilities of using the narratives authored by people with visual disabilities in educational and rehabilitation proceedings for people with visual disabilities, based on biographical education, using reminiscence bibliotherapy and mentoring.

The considerations undertaken therefore revolved around issues concerning the need to write about oneself and its educational and rehabilitation dimension, the place of the subject of visual disability in autobiographical literary records, the use of autobiographical records of blind writers in education and rehabilitation, especially biographical education, using reminiscence bibliotherapy and mentoring.

In addition to practical postulates, containing methodological and organizational remarks, research postulates were derived, among which the key one is the author's research model (bibliological and functional) of biographical works by authors with disabilities.
