On Emotions in Scholarship and Teaching based in the Correspondence of Rev. Wincenty Myszor’s (19412–2017) with His Students

Abstract

This paper presents the scholarly and educational support extended by Rev. Wincenty Myszor (1941–2017), patrologist and Coptologist, to his doctoral and habilitation candidates, students. An analysis of his epistolary legacy, preserved in the Archdiocesan Archive in Katowice, reveals the breadth of assistance he provided. Rev. Myszor’s interventions frequently influenced researchers’ subsequent academic and professional decisions. He helped them choose dissertation topics, pointed to appropriate sources, consulted on translations. He was equally effective in advising on matters of academic promotion. The correspondence under study testifies to Rev. Myszor’s concern for the scholarly development of the academic community and to his receptiveness to its needs. The letters portray him as an authority and mentor who played a significant role in the flourishing of patristics and early-Christian studies in Poland.
