Encountering the Other as an Educational Situation.

A Research Report

Abstract

The article constitutes an attempt to deepen the understanding of the issue by outlining its theoretical framework and presenting the methodological foundations of the study, its results, and conclusions. The main objective of the research was to explore and comprehend the educational meanings attributed by pedagogy students at Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa to their encounters with the Other. The study employed a hermeneutic method based on descriptive-interpretative text analysis. Student essays served as the source of insight and understanding, revealing that the encounter with the Other emerges as a multidimensional educational experience – encompassing cognition, action, co-being, and reflective being – occurring within the relationship between the Self and the Other, between being-for-itself and being-in-itself. Such an encounter, understood in this way, possesses a deeply biographical dimension, inscribed in the individual history of human development.
