In Search of Authority for Contemporary Youth

Abstract

The article notes that role models and authority figures seem to be necessary for young people, who often feel lost in the modern world. The 21st century is bringing increasing cultural changes, causing worldview chaos, identity crisis, and a sense of meaninglessness and loneliness among young people. Their sense of physical and ontological security has been shaken. The presented biographies of saintly women (Catherine of Siena, Hildegard of Bingen, Teresa of Ávila, Thérèse of Lisieux,) have significant educational value. Wise, progressive, and independent women led useful lives in their eras. According to the author, their work brought social benefi ts in the past and is worth emulating today.
