The Works of Stefan Centomirski in Biographical Perspective

Abstract

As a child, Stefan Centomirski (1928–2011) was exiled with his family to Siberia. He spent there 12 years. After liberation from exile, he began studying art. Over the years he created paintings, paintings of Siberian winter, which were not only a testimony of exile experience, but also a form of expression and an attempt to overcome the trauma. Artistic creation became an over half a century long prelude to verbalise personal experiences, allowed the artist to prepare mentally to tell about the Siberian winters. The artist stressed that the images are a unique addition to his written memories. This article attempts to look at the works of Stefan Centomirski from the biographical perspective.
