A Place in the Biography As an Expression of a Common World

Abstract

In essayistic form, the author expresses her interest in the place in the biography, perceived from the perspective of the question about the common world, co-created not only by humans. It shows how the presence of a place in a biography reminds us of this world and the Nature-Culture dichotomy that covers it. With regard to the thought which, by undermining this dichotomy, departs from the concept of Nature (such as Timothy Morton’s concept of “dark ecology”) and, based on the literature material – “Przewóz” by Andrzej Stasiuk – argues her thesis about the place in the life story. Providing the possibility of telling a story about life, the place in it is a window to a symbiotic reality; a world that is not exclusively human. The conclusions update the pedagogy of the place, emphasizing the need to focus it on cultivating the common world and new, regenerative thinking about human participation in the life and duration of this world.
