The Category of Place in Self-Narrations of University Students

Abstract

The article addresses the issues of place in students’ autobiographical statements obtained in narrative interviews. The research was conducted in 2019-2020 among students of various faculties and courses of the University of Silesia. This was done while implementing the program of the National Centre for Culture in Warsaw entitled Bardzo Młoda Kultura 2019-2021 województwo śląskie [Very Young Culture 2019-2021 Silesian Voivodeship]. The analyses of research materials were conducted with the use of an authorial tool – an analytical scheme, based on the opposing categories: home – not -home, own – alien, animate – inanimate. The undertaken activities resulted in an attempt to reconstruct a map of experiencing the world by a young person, which at the same time was compliant with the theoretical reflection upon understanding the place in the life of an individual.
