Activities of the detachment of Franciszek Przysiężniak, “Father John” during the Second World War. The the underground activists stationed mainly in the Janów Forest in the northern part of the Sandomierz Basin. The aim of the article is to present the significance of the forest as a place of existence of “Father John’s” partisans – in the depths of the forest, where underground life was organized, patriotic attitudes were formed, inspiring people to fight against the enemy, and where they contemplated the future after the war. The partisans had to adapt to the surrounding nature and its became well-acquainted with it, which is reflected in the surviving memories of witnesses of those times.
