Self-esteem and Anxiety among Teenagers

A Research Report

Abstract

The aim of the article entitled "Self-esteem and teenagers' anxiety" is to analyze the relationship between the level of self-esteem and the sense of trait anxiety in teenagers (high school students). The research sample consisted of 412 secondary school students from the Lublin commune. The study used the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (SES) in the Polish adaptation by Dzwonkowska et al. (2008), and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) by Spielberger et al. (1983), in the Polish adaptation by Wrześniewski, Sosnowski (1996). Only the X-2 subscale was used in the research. The analysis of empirical data showed a strong, negative relationship between the level of self-esteem and the sense of anxiety of the surveyed teenagers.
