This article is devoted to the memory of Professor Marian Stelmasik (1931-1995), an artist and teacher who spent most of his life in Lublin and was an important figure in this community. The text attempts to present both Marian Stelmasik's life and the conditions in which his artistic education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow took place. The aspect of education was of particular importance, considering that the artist was taught by outstanding artists from the circle of Polish colourism. His fascination with colour and nature, followed by his turn to abstraction at the later stage of his artistic career, accompanied him until the end of his life. Unmoved by the passing trends and painting novelties, faithful to his painting ideals, he became a representative of Lublin's colourism. In all spheres of his activity - both artistic and didactic - Marian Stelmasik was perceived by his students, colleagues and friends as a kind, sensitive and highly cultured person.
