Encounter` As a Turning Point in Building the Biography of the Student from a Personalistic and Existential Perspective

Abstract

The article presents various meanings and dimensions of the notion `encounter` in terms of personalistic and existential pedagogy. Recalling selected views of its creators in Poland and reconstructing the features of upbringing as an activity based on dialogue and intertwining the mutual interactions of You and I – two subjects entangled in it – I try to show the multidimensionality and universality of the encounter. The described phenomenon fits perfectly not only into Stefan Kunowski's contour theory of development, revealing its ambiguous features and pedagogical meanings – relationality, breakthrough and transgressiveness, as well as therapeutic and person-forming character, but also into every other humanistic pedagogy based on leading man towards goodness, beauty and truth
