The aim of this article is to reflect on the essence and meaning of hope through the biography of Natalia Tułasiewicz, who grew as a person, teacher, and social activist during the war years. Her life, full of passion and suffering, became a symbol of a spiritual pilgrimage – a path of hope that endures even in the face of death. Humans need hope. Faced with the challenges of the modern world, equipped with knowledge and technology, they need the strength to act despite adversity. Hope is a force that inspires action. It is a bridge between people in a world of division and loneliness. It counteracts the sense of meaninglessness in an era of relativism and increasingly widespread doubt and experiences of spiritual emptiness. Speaking of hope provides perspective – it reminds us that life has purpose and that even in the most difficult moments, it is worth seeking the light. The article characterizes the essential characteristics of hope as a human condition. It identifies its connections with fate, faith, love, and courage, illustrating the various attitudes adopted by humans. The pilgrimage is presented literally as Natalia Tułasiewicz's voluntary departure from occupied Poland for Germany on an educational and pastoral mission, and symbolically as a journey of the heart toward truth, others, and God. The aim of this article was achieved using an analytical-synthetic approach. Four volumes of Natalia Tułasiewicz's diaries, spanning the years 1938–1943, were used as the primary source. For greater clarity, all quotations from Natalia's writings are italicized.
