The Institutional Dimension of the Pedagogical Biography of Blessed Marcelina Darowska (1827–1911)
Abstract
The present paper refers to the concept of the educational system developed by Blessed Marcelina Darowska, the co-founder (together with Józefa Karska) of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the religious order also referred to as the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception. The paper is an attempt to introduce the dimension of Blessed Marcelina Darowska’s pedagogical biography related to the institutional educational system and the associated establishments. As an example of such establishment, a thorough characterisation of the boarding school for girls founded by Darowska in 1863 in Yazlovets is given. The characterisation covers both material and non-material aspects of pedagogy (educational activity) of Blessed Marcelina Darowska. In the final section of the paper, an attempt is made to depict signs of continuity and change in the institutional educational system created by Darowska, which are currently applied in educational establishments run by the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception.
