Teaching about the “Cursed Soldiers”: Challenges for Teachers

Abstract

The history of the “Cursed Soldiers” is slowly finding its proper place in Polish society. Teachers should play an important role in disseminating trustworthy information about the heroes of the Polish independence and anti-communist underground. They have a legal obligation to raise children and youth in a spirit of patriotic values based on historical truth. The article is an attempt to assess the actual state of teachers’ influence in the context of disseminating knowledge about the “Cursed Soldiers” among students and shaping their national-patriotic values.
