A Lost(?) Biography in the Perspective of a Distorted Childhood

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to present a loser biography, i.e. the life of a person who has not had an easy life since childhood. The present study uses the account of a woman living in a small town in the Lower Silesian voivodship, who grew up in a family with alcohol problems. The woman's account makes it possible to draw attention to the importance of primary socialisation as a factor determining the course of a person's entire life. Growing up in a family with alcohol problems resulted in a deficit of needs such as" love, acceptance and security. Their acquisition determined the fate of the growing woman. Among other things, they contributed to her numerous escapes from her childhood home to her mother, who had previously spurned her for alcohol. It seemed that her needs for love, acceptance and security were fulfilled when she met her partner. However, in this case, the woman copied her mother's behaviour, i.e. she gradually fell into alcohol addiction. This indicates how much her life was affected by primary socialisation. It was the alcohol problem that made it impossible for her to free herself from the same life problems as her mother. It was he who contributed to the woman losing her life, her biography.
