Professional and Private Life of Teacher Eugenia Horyńska

in the Light of Her Personal Correspondence

Abstract

Eugenia Horyńska was a teacher who completed her internship at a high school in Zduńska Wola between 1934 and 1936. During this time, she corresponded with her sister, sharing news about her professional work and private life. An analysis of these letters reveals the challenges faced by individuals in interwar Poland who aspired to a career in teaching. It is worth noting that in these letters, 16 of which have been preserved, Eugenia Horyńska also shared her emotions – both positive and negative – that accompanied her experiences. The letters provide insight into the dynamics of small-town communities and paint a picture of Polish education between 1918 and 1939.
