Participation in a School Strike in the Light of an Individual Biographical Experience of Young People Born in the Late 19th Century

Abstract

This article focuses on the individual experiences of young people who directly participated in a school strike in 1905. Based on the analysis of memoirs and autobiographical narratives of people born in the late 19th century, the author interprets the role and place that the school strike had in the individual experiences of people who grew up in the atmosphere of a struggle for national identity and the autonomy of Polish territories. The article presents the young people’s participation in the school strike as a formative experience in the biographies of individual participants. It also addresses the question of the symbolic sphere, related to the attribution of specific roles and meanings to the events of 1905 in autobiographical narratives that determine their place in ego-documents created in the life cycle.
